Elections: CNE and Media Organs Managers Meet

Luanda, 04/08 – The chairman of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), Caetano de Sousa, and a team of the Social Communication Ministry, headed by its national director, Luís de Matos, Monday in Luanda, analysed aspects linked to the legislative elections of September 5.

At the end of the meeting, CNE press officer, João Carlos Van-Dúnem, told press the meeting discussed issues related to the Electoral Law.

According to the source, CNE chairman heard from the State-run media organs managers, concerns associated with the radio and tv broadcasting time for contesting political parties as from Tuesday.

As he said, the main concern raised has to do with warning to the media organs about the need to observe the rules set for the purpose.

The official stated that CNE has reiterated that all private media institutions who would want to serve any political party in broadcasting, should abide by defined parameters being followed by the public organs.

The CNE thus called for the need for a strict observation of the law and the special attention required in this particular period.

As to the funding of the political parties, João Carlos said the last information that reached the CNE indicated that until Monday morning, only six political parties had submitted the concerned papers to the Finance Ministry.

João Carlos Van-Dunem added that some procedures are to be observed before the funds are released.
