Sports: Delegation Leaves Brazil

Luanda, 08/03 – The Angolan delegation that participated from 26 July to 02 August in the Sixth Games of the Portuguese-speaking Countries Community (CPLP) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is due to arrive back in the country on Monday with second position in the general standing table of medals.

The departure is set for 10.30 pm this Sunday and the team is headed by the National director for Sports, Raimundo Ricardo.

Angola has participated in the event for youths under 16 with the following modalities: football, male handball, female basketball, tennis and volleyball in both sexes, occupying the second position with nine medals behind Portugal.

The sports that obtained medals were athletics for disabled with three gold medals, one silver medal and two bronze medals. Tennis and male handball won a silver medal each and female volleyball won a bronze medal.

The next CPLP Games will take place in 2010, in Maputo, Mozambique.
