Ruling Party Official Stresses Gains Brought By Peace

Mbanza Kongo, 04/07 – The first secretary of the governing MPLA party in northern Zaire province, Pedro Sebastião, Saturday here highlighted the benefits achieved after six years of peace.

Pedro Sebastião, who is also the provincial governor of the northern Zaire province, told a meeting of the MPLA leadership with militants held last weekend in Mbanza Kongo city, that the government will continue developing efforts to overcome the prevailing difficulties aiming the improvement of the population’s living standards and the country`s development.

He called, on the other hand, for an active participation of the population, mainly his party`s militants, in the electoral process, with view to ensure the party`s victory in the forthcoming September legislative elections.

The politician also appealed to local residents to surrender illegal firearms in their possession.

The event aimed at fulfilling the guidance of the party`s president, José Eduardo dos Santos.
