Public University Principal Highlights President`s Support

Luanda, 07/31 – State-run Agostinho Neto University (UAN) principal, João Teta, Thursday here said that the positive results of the institution he leads, evident in the high number of graduated students, every year, is the result of the challenge launched by the Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, in 2002, for the re-launching of the public university countrywide.

João Teta said this at the Gym-sports pavilion in Luanda, during a delivery ceremony of diplomas to 766 new graduated by different UAN organic units.

To him, thanks to the superior guidance, through the re-launching programme of university, and consequent support by the Government, to the Agostinho Neto University, the society can see the results of the work being developed in this public institution.

Briefly, João Teta mentioned the results marking the UAN teaching: For the first time in the history of Angola, the Higher Institute of Science and Technology based in south-western Namibe province, have trained higher education cadres in the specialities of accountancy and Management, Environment and Maritime Research Engineering, in a total of 140 students.

The Higher Institute of Science and Technology of the eastern Lunda Sul province trained this year the first Technician Engineers, in a total of 113, in the sectors of Mining and Environment, Metallurgic and Materials and Civil Engineering. Whereas the Higher Pedagogic School of Lunda Norte, has brought to the market at least 395 lecturers.

Among those graduated were also university Masters, from which in 2007, 80 Masters got job, in the areas of Mineral and Environment Resources, Science Education, Agronomy and Natural resources and Applied Mathematics.

UAN also trained in 2007/2008 period 225 people in Mathematics and in Arts and Social Sciences (linguists, sociologists, anthropologists, psychologists, philosophers, historians), in a total of 350 trained in two years.

In its turn, the faculty of Agrarian Sciences in central Huambo province, resumed the training process, graduating 57 Agronomic Engineers, also this year, it graduated the first Masters in Electronic and Telecommunication, of Law and Medicine teaching. Various personalities including diplomatic body, MPs, ministers, religious leaders and families, with highlight to the minister of Territory Administration (MAT), Virgílio Fontes Pereira, in representation of the President of Republic were present at the event.

Agostinho Neto University in Luanda comprises eight organic units, namely faculty of Law, Engineer, Science, Medicine, Art and Social Sciences, Economy and the higher institutes of Education and Nursing Sciences.
