Women on Parade Celebrating July 31
Luanda, 07/31 – Hundreds of Angolan women participated this Thursday in a parade to commemorate the African Women’s Day (July 31st) and encourage women to vote
in the legislative elections of next September 05.
The parade, led by the governor of Luanda, Francisca do Espírito Santo, and by the MP Joana Lina also served for them to express satisfaction at the Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos’ announcement to increase the number of women in decision-making posts by more then 30
percent.
Another objective of the parade, which counted on the participation of women of sports, of the national police, fire-fighters department and of female associations, was to show the importance of women in Angola’s development.
The provincial director of family and women promotion, Genoveva Lino stressed the importance of the African Women’s Day, by reminding that an Angolan delegation attended its proclamation ceremony on 31 July 1962, in Dar Es Salam (Tanzania).
Genoveva Lino affirmed that this parade also served to inform people that Angolan women are ready to elect the individuals lead the country and that they are ready to occupy decision-making posts.
After the parade, chorus of the United Methodist and Kimbaguista churches sang praise to God.
