Bengo: Over 70,000 Children Immunised Against Polio
Caxito, 06/29 – The Broad Vaccination Programme (PAV) in northern Bengo
province, vaccinated 75,339, children from zero to five years of age against poliomyelitis, to
the contrary of the expected 72,554, during the second phase of the national campaign, which
happened from June 20 to 22.
ANGOP learnt on Saturday from a communiqué that for the success of the campaign, local
health authorities counted on the assistance of 176 brigades comprising 352 vaccinators and
41 supervisors who also administered Albendazol to the infants.
During the three-day campaign, 35 vehicles were mobilised, having enabled the coverage of all
localities, as well as eight provincial advisers, except to some regions of Caxicane village
(Icolo e Bengo district) due to the lack of a boat to cross the lagoon.
In Bengo, PAV counted on the support of chieftains, religious entities, total control of the
epidemics (TCE), as well as of scouts of the Catholic Church, who were involved in the
mobilisation of the population before the campaign.
In the first phase of the campaign, held from last May 16 to 18, provincial health authorities
vaccinated 67,610 children from zero to five years of age.
