Cult: Angolan Writer Presents New Book
Luanda, 06/28 – A book titled “Nzamba - O Rei Sou Eu”, by the Angolan writer
John Bella, was presented to the public Saturday at Luanda`s Independence Park, in the ambit
of the second edition of the children`s Book Fair, which opened on Thursday.
Edited by the National Books and Discs Institute (INALD), the work portrays a dispute for
power, taking place in a village, between the elephant and the lion, which had a negative
impact on the good relationship among the animals, said the author.
To settle their disagreement the animals had to resort to the tortoise (the local advisor) for
assistance, noted the author of the 26 page-book with an initial 1000 available copies.
“The two contenders were advised to hold elections in which the elephant became the king of
the forest, whereas the lion became the head of all animals", stressed the author, who said he
was making this metaphor as a way to teach children about the benefits of democracy and
also because of the country`s current electoral process.
Born in Luanda and founding member of the Young Brigade of Literature, John Bella is
currently a teacher.
Graduate in sociology by Angola’s Jean Piaget University, the writer is also the author of
various literary works like "Água da vida", "Panelas cozinharam madrugadas" and "A canção
da felicidade". |
