Luanda, 06/27 – The Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, received Thursday in Luanda the assistant to the United Nations secretary general for African affairs,
Alhaile Menkerios.
At the end of 30 minutes audience, the UN envoy did not speak to press, but official source revealed that the meeting might have been topped by the situation in Zimbabwe.
The run-off of presidential election in Zimbabwe that may be contested by opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai and Robert Mugabe, will take place on Friday (June 27), despite the formal presentation, on Tuesday, of giving up by the MDC leader to the Zimbabwean Electoral Commission (ZEC).
The poll will be held as the document was only presented four days prior to the election, instead of 21 days before, as the ballot papers have already been printed with the names and photographs of the two candidates, thus the voters can cast their votes in the contenders of their preference.
The head of SADC observer mission of elections in Zimbabwe, Angolan José Marcos Barrica, discussed last Wednesday, in Harare, with the secretary general of ZANU-PF, Didymus Mutasa, about the current political situation in the country.
During the talks, Marcos Barrica asked the Zimbabwean official, who is also the country’s State Security minister, should his candidate (Robert Mugabe) win the elections to take into account the reconciliation factor, as Tsvangirai is an active element of Zimbabwean political
society who will rebuild together the country toward development.
