UNDP, NGOs Sign Agreement Against HIV/AIDS
Luanda, 06/26 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and 13
Non Governmental Organizations (NGO) signed this Thursday in Luanda a USD 1.9 million
accord aimed at reinforcing the capacity of institutions linked to the fight against HIV/AIDS .
The agreement, signed by UNDP representative, Kuako Abrefa, and officials of the NGOs
operating in various regions of the country, aims at reinforcing with USD 1.9 million the
capacity of the organizations in reintegration of sex workers.
According to UNDP/Global Fund representative, George Romero, the amount will
contribute to the implementation of ways for the prevention and treatment of female sex
workers in the country, as well as purchase of medicines and preventive actions.
Representative of NGO Human Action, Pombal Maria, stated that the signing of this
agreement represents, above all, an engagement with HIV positive people.
The ceremony counted on the presence of Health deputy minister for hospital sector Evelize
Frestas, UNDP representative, Kuako Abrefa, Association of fighting HIV/AIDS deputy
director, Lúcia Furtado, representatives from UNDP-Global Fund, Jorge Romero, as well as
from 13 NGOs.
The one-year long project will be implemented in Luanda and other eight provinces of the
country.
