New York, 10/07 - Angola`s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ismael Gaspar Martins, Friday here reiterated the total and unconditional support of Angolan Government for the Saharan people that for over two decades are fighting for self-determination.

The Angolan Ambassador expressed this government`s position at a general debate on decolonisation under the Fourth Commission of the United Nations General Assembly.

Ismael Martins stressed Angolan Government support for the United Nations Security Council 1429/2002 resolution of July 30 on the right of Western Sahara people for self-determination.

The resolution reaffirms the validity of the UN peace plan which includes a free, fair, regular and impartial referendum on Saharan people`s self-determination as a means towards the solution of the conflict in the Magreb region.

The diplomat also reaffirmed full support to the Houston Accords and all other resolutions adopted by the UN general Assembly and Security Council on Western Sahara.

Ismael Martins exhorted other United Nations members to urgently implement the 1424/2002 resolution as this is an instrument approved by the parties involved in the conflict and has international community support.
