ANGOP in the globalization of information

On October 30 this year, Agência Angola Press (ANGOP) celebrated its 27th anniversary at a time its board of directors remained increasingly committed to improving the quality of its news service staking on the capacity building of its staff and the modernisation of equipment.

Now that peace in the country starts to consolidate and the globalisation goes irreversible, ANGOP is not unaware of those changes. Hence, its stake at the moment is to establish satellite communications among the 18 provinces of the country.

Once completed, this process which is already in progress in a few provinces will pave the way for interaction between the head office and the Agency branches, will permit to increase the output and, obviously, the quality of work.

This investment which is financially supported by the Angolan government started four years ago with the launch of a website that ANGOP has put at the service of its readers and other consumers. It is an effort that is worth making as its fruits have started to be collected. Today, ANGOP can through its internet page bring its service at the disposal of whoever may want it and anywhere in the world. With this, the actual image of the country reaches the four corners of the world not in a distorted manner as it has often been wickedly presented. This comprehensive page offers the consumer a wide range of options to choose from as it is presented in three languages namely Portuguese, English and French..

But in the spite of its being one of the best agencies of the African continent and even comparing with some of those of most developed countries in the world, ANGOP has still a long way to go.

Therefore, the modernisation of its equipment is followed by a permanent perfecting of its staff both the journalists and technicians.

With these deep changes in the functional structure of the agency, a pleasant revolution has been operated which permits ANGOP to satisfactorily play its role as Angola post card abroad.
